As in any kitchen, every square inch of space has a purpose. Increasingly, space in the kitchen has to serve multiple purposes: Areas that can be used to serve serve guests, versatile work space, and well-arranged tools and cooking elements. Large or small, a well designed work space makes cooking a breeze.
Sometimes you come across a kitchen thats extremely large but doesnt use any space beyond wall space. Put in a double wide island for all the counter space you could ever need. Its a great way to include a stove top without sacrificing countertop.
The Uzine restaurant has a concrete island and if youre curious about the rest of the design you can visit it in Stockholm, Sweden. It was designed by architect Richard Lindvall in 2015. The space used to be a sausage factory and the transformation had to be major in order to turn it into a welcoming restaurant with a totally new concept.
